Dr Diana Salazar

Dr Diana Salazar is a composer, sound artist, and music educator. She is Director of Programmes at the College, where she oversees learning and teaching across junior, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As a PhD supervisor she welcomes doctoral proposals in electroacoustic composition, spatial and environmental sound practices, interdisciplinary collaborative practices, the cultural study of music technology, music technology and education, and conservatoire pedagogies, including one-to-one studio teaching. Dr Salazar has particular experience in supervising practice-led doctorates.

A conservatoire-trained flautist and composer, her own current research centres on conservatoire pedagogies and the role of technology in enhancing learning, creativity and employability in higher music education. She is a co-founder of the Consortium and has published on one-to-one (studio) pedagogies and technology-enhanced practices in higher music education, including as co-editor of Inside the Contemporary Conservatoire: Critical Perspectives from the 91视频, London (Routledge, 2025).

As a composer, her acousmatic compositions construct immersive cinematic sound spaces through detailed layering of sonic gestures, textures, and motion trajectories. In addition to fixed media composition she also creates work for instruments and live electronics, site-specific environments, music and interactive dance, and electronic improvisation. Her compositions have been performed nationally and internationally, with many recognised in international competitions including Bourges, Música Viva, the International Computer Music Association Awards, Musica Nova and Prix Destellos. Her work has been published on the Elektramusic, Studio PANaroma, SCRIME, Discparc, MisoMusic and Drift Station labels. She has previously been a composer-in-residence at Elektronmusikstudion (EMS), Sweden; the Destellos Institute, Argentina; the Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia (CEMI), Texas; and Atlantic Center for the Arts, Florida.
