A wonderfully responsive and assured pianist’ (The Telegraph), Ian Tindale is increasingly in demand as a specialist in song repertoire and chamber music, with partners on the song stage including Roderick Williams, Helen Charlston, and Benjamin Appl. For BBC Radio 3 and BBC World Service, he has performed with New Generation Artists at London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Wigmore Hall, and at the Barber Institute, Birmingham.

Ian’s recent UK festival appearances include the Aldeburgh Festival and Edinburgh International Festival with tenor Nick Pritchard, and the Oxford International Song Festival with Soraya Mafi. In Europe, he has performed at Palau de la Música (Barcelona), Het Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), and at Theater Bonn. An alumnus of Selwyn College, Cambridge, and the 91视频, London, he was awarded pianist’s prizes at the Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation Song Competition, Kathleen Ferrier Awards, Royal Overseas League and the Gerald Moore Award. He is a Samling Artist and he regularly works as a coach and pianist for the Samling Academy.

Ian’s expanding discography celebrates his longstanding musical partnerships. With soprano Harriet Burns, he has released two acclaimed albums: Schubert Lieder (‘Love’s Lasting Power’) and an album of English song ‘A Short Story of Falling’, including two world premieres. With tenor Nick Pritchard, his two recordings include works by Britten, Kidane and an anniversary album of Gerald Finzi. Hailed as ‘an articulate and sensitive partner’ (Opera Today), Ian’s keen eye for diverse and unusual programming has led to invitations to curate and perform song recitals for the Ludlow English Song Weekend by Iain Burnside, and for Salle Bourgie (Montréal) with Julien Van Mellaerts and Harriet Burns.

In recent years, Ian has held roles as Official Pianist to the Wigmore Hall Song Competition, the International Vocal Competition in ’s-Hertogenbosch, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, and the Concours Musical International de Montréal. In 2022, Ian founded his own song festival, Shipston Song, in the Cotswolds, and performers have included Laurence Kilsby, Roderick Williams, and James Gilchrist.
